Green Retreat
Briar Chapel
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Schelfe and Associates, Inc. was selected to direct and design the interiors for a new Community Clubhouse to be located in the new Briar Chapel community, near Chapel Hill North Carolina. The developer, Newland Communities, desired a building which would act as a central gathering place for the community, be able to be used for a variety of events, include a catering kitchen, business offices, fitness and aerobic areas and most importantly be environmentally friendly. The building needed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver level, certification.
The design team of Schelfe and Associates provided design and development of all interior elements including all interior millwork, lighting, finishes, and provided selection, procurement and installation of all furniture, are rugs, artwork and accessories.
Following the design of the building dictated by the Architecture, Schelfe and Associates designed the interior to be reminiscent of a craftsman style interior with a fresher contemporary twist. The majority of the interior finishes are sustainable products, having used recycled glass countertops, natural wallcovering, recycled clay tiles and paints with zero VOC’s (volatile organic compound). Also, most of the furnishings selected for the project met certain green and sustainable requirements set forth by the design team.
